Sarah Hammer is an artist from Southwest Virginia currently residing in the Südtirol region of Northern Italy. She has earned three degrees from Virginia Tech: a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art, and a Masters of Fine Art in Creative Technologies.

Her art practice encompasses painting, printmaking, sculpture, and video. Her creative research centers on visual phenomena, where common language and imagery is shared between mathematics and art. Her practice investigates how rational systems like patterns, geometries, matrices, and topologies can produce irrational and unpredictable images and takes inspiration from the patterns and connections shared between nature and technology. Currently, her art practices engages with moiré patterns through digital and analogue processes and examines themes of queer ecology and emergence in the post-digital landscape.
